It’s never too early in the wedding planning process to start talking about your guest list. Before you announce that you’re having 250 people and start verbally inviting people, it’s a good idea to sit down with your fiancé and answer the following questions.

  • What is your dream wedding? It could be a petite gathering or a large bash.
  • Who comes to mind when you think of getting married? These are the people that make your day particularly special.
  • Who is involved in paying for the wedding? This will help to decide which guests they would like to have there as well.
  • What can you afford? This is the ultimate question- setting up a budget will help identify what type of event fits best for you.

Once you’ve got these preliminary questions out of the way, and decided where you’re having both the ceremony and reception, you’ll know about how many guests you want to invite. The next step is deciding how many invitations to give to each of your parents. Traditionally, the invitations are split evenly between the two families. However, if the bride and groom share the same group of friends, you may choose to give each of your parents a third of the invitations, reserving a third for yourselves.

You and your fiancé should sit down and start naming the names (and gathering the addresses!) that will make up your portion of the guest list. Make it fun with wine and cheese!

Orchid is growing on us: A version of the purple hue is Pantone Inc.’s color of the year for 2014. It follows 2013’s pick of emerald green.

Officially known as Radiant Orchid, the tropical shade is a color-wheel contrast to green, said Leatrire Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, but it’s not the red that would have been a more obvious choice. “It’s a little different, it’s a little off the beaten path and it’s not a primary color,” she explains. “It’s an invitation to innovation. The purple family offers an opportunity to do creative things.”

And, she said, that is what pop culture wants right now. “People associate purple with creativity and originality — and those are very valued today. We see words like that being used to describe technologies and products that are seen as innovative and with an approach you haven’t tried before.”

Romance anyone?   Judson had contacted me to plan a surprise Wedding Vow renewal.  They got married last year and felt they had missed so much that comes with the planning that special day and including your family, friends.  He wanted them to be able to read their vows to each other,  one to one and have the ceremony on the beach just for the two of them under a beautiful arch in Laguna Beach.

Did we mention, it was a complete surprise!

Judson had told her to pack for a beach weekend and buy a new sun dress.  He drove her to Hotel Laguna with a blindfold on and  I met them in the lobby and we walked outside to the terrace.  Judson left to meet her down to the sand at the ceremony site and I removed the blindfold – she started to cry and was so surprised.

Rachelle grew up in Laguna Beach so we thought it would be wonderful to hold the ceremony close to a place that felt like home and
their first date was at Salernos so the photographer took them downtown for photos at the restaurant and returned to the beach for photos to capture these romantic memories.

After renewing their vows Rachelle & Judson released two doves and last but not least kissed the bride!

It was our pleasure to help Judson plan this romantic renewal of vows in Laguna Beach and we just have to mention the special people who helped make it happen!
